UNDER CONSTRUCTION! PLEASE PARDON THE DUST
Ocean County College
Now is the time for every adjunct to become a member of the adjunct union. There is strength in numbers. You saw what your union did concerning the quick term pension contributions, or a lack thereof. Michele Rosen, a former adjunct, went to Trenton and won the case for us. By doing so her pension was increased by $150 monthly. We currently have 5 cases at PERC against the college, and expect reasonable outcomes on most of them. We need each and every one of you; your backing is essential for our continued success.
Fill out the membership form available on the "Forms" link to the left, and email it to me as an attachment, or please send to me via college mail. My cell phone number is 609-713-3067. Call anytime.
President, OCC Adjunct Union
AS WE APPROACH THE START OF A NEW SEMESTER, ALL ADJUNCT WHO HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED CLASSES WILL BE “INVITED” BY JON LARSON TO ATTEND COLLOQUIUM.THE OCC ADJUNCT ASSOCIATION URGES YOU NOT TO ATTEND AS A STATEMENT OF OPPOSITION TO THE LARSON ADMINISTRATION’S CONDUCT TOWARD OUR ASSOCIATION AND ADJUNCTS, WHETHER THEY ARE MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OR NOT.YOU KNOW, FROM PREVIOUS STATEMENTS, THAT THE LARSON ADMINISTRATION RENEGED ON THE AGREEMENT FOR A NEW CONTRACT BEGINNING IN 2014 WHILE HANDING OUT SUBSTANTIAL RAISES TO ADMINISTRATORS IN LARSON’S INNER CIRCLE. YOU KNOW, FROM OUR LAST NEWSLETTER, THAT THE LARSON ADMINISTRATION OFFERED ADJUNCTS A $5/COURSE RAISE INSTEAD OF THE RAISES THAT HAD BEEN AGREED TO. WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW IS THAT, DURING THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS, AS NEGOTIATIONS HAVE CONTINUED TO BE NON-EXISTENT, THE LARSON ADMINISTRATION HAS ATTEMPTED TO INTIMIDATE INDIVIDUAL ADJUNCTS AND THE ASSOCIATION THROUGH ILLEGAL AND UNILATERAL DECISIONS IN VIOLATION OF OUR CONTRACT AND STATE LAW.THESE ACTIONS AFFECT NOT ONLY ADJUNCT SALARIES, BUT THEIR PENSIONS AND SERVICE, AND INCLUDE A CHANGE IN THE CONTRACT LENGTH FROM THE ACADEMIC YEAR TO INDIVIDUAL SEMESTERS, DEMOTION OF ADJUNCTS WHO TEACH E-LEARNING CLASSES, REFUSAL TO ALLOW RETIRED ADJUNCTS WHO THEN BEGIN TEACHING AGAIN MEMBERSHIP IN THE ASSOCIATION, AND REFUSAL TO PAY PENSION CONTRIBUTIONS FOR ADJUNCTS, WHO THROUGH NO FAULT OF THEIR OWN, DO NOT TEACH FOR A SEMESTER.WHILE THE ASSOCIATION IS IN THE PROCESS OF FILING UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICES COMPLAINTS WITH THE PUBLIC EMPLOYEE RELATIONS COMMISSION TO RECTIFY THESE ACTIONS, WE HOPE YOU WILL JOIN IN A BOYCOTT OF THE COLLOQUIUM AS A SIGNAL TO THE ADMINISTRATION THAT WE WILL NO LONGER BE TREATED WITH DISRESPECT.
YOURS IN SOLIDARITY
MICHAEL ZAHLER, PRESIDENT, OCCAA
